Native to most of the eastern United States, lyre-leaf sage inhabits a wide range of growing conditions. 1-2' tall stems grow from basal foliage and produce spikes of whorled tubular flowers in shades of lavender, pale pink, and pale blue in mid-spring to early summer. The evergreen basal leaves are gray-green and have prominent burgundy veins, often considered a groundcover resembling invasive Ajuga reptans. Readily self-sows. Plant 18" apart.
