'Holy Smoke' big bluestem will transform through the seasons with a flourish of colors, tolerates drought and poorish soils, and perform as a thriller in the sunny border or filler in the meadow. The late spring foliage is green with a silvery overtone and reddish stems. As the season progresses, leaves develop a reddish hue and by fall, the stems become pink and the foliage takes on beautiful shades of red and burgundy, adding rich color and texture to the autumn landscape.
