The Iris-like foliage of native sweet flag rises up 3-4' from wetlands in the Northeast, upper Midwest and Canada. Often used in the landscape for erosion control and bioretention, it spreads by rhizomes and tolerates standing water. The leaves of this cool season grass have a citrus fragrance when crushed. Spadix-like greenish-yellow flowers bloom in June and July. Plant 24" apart.
