Sweet Fern

A deciduous shrub, ‘sweet fern’ refers to the sweet odor of the leaves, especially when crushed, and the olive-green fern-like foliage. 2-4' tall foliage grows in dry, sandy sites and is native to eastern North American. Comptonia will tolerate salt spray and is a common companion in pine tree stands, spreading to form colonies.
