Arctostaphylos uva-ursi

Native evergreen bearberry is a shrubby ground cover for cool climates and poor sandy soils. The 6-12" tall foliage has dark green small rounded leaves and nodding white flowers in mid to late spring. Flowers are followed by bright red berries, (beloved by bears), that persist into winter. The foliage becomes a reddish-plum color in fall.
